Ok Skippy - your request has not fallen on deaf ears
Here's the STAMPSHOW venue, Rod Laver arena across the road from our top floor Hilton Hotel room, where we've just arrived.
We'll be there first thing tomorrow.

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
Unfortunately my lap top doesn't like the Lan/wan or whatever connection at Stampshow. Worked at it for hours and still couldn't get it to work. Had the Australia Post Web Tech guy have a shot. Even the head of the Philatelic Division Noel LEAHY had a go. No luck.
I have come down to Federation Square to connect to the Wi Fi. (which obviously works fine)
A quiet start but the table is set up and a few contacts made. Glen the signs etc arrived at 10.30, just in time.
Day 1 and everyonge is more interested in being first at their favourite dealer/s to snap up the best material.
Waroff and Philly were in fine form. But they remained decent and din't scare off any potential 'Boarders'.
The exhibits are excellent and with luck I will spend tomorrow perusing same.
If you have a chance to come in to Melbourne be sure to pay us a visit.

Hi their Glen and Margo, this is Mick from Westmeadows, nice photo and that was quick, thanks for your help and advice.
Enjoy and have a great time here in Melbourne, try the City Circle Trams for free and also a Shuttle Bus which go between certain hours(9:10am to 5:30pm & Thursday to Sunday till 8:30pm),they run the city perimeter and right into the new Docklands.
For a great cheap feed with BYO or drinks from the menu $20 to $30- for a good bottle of wine La Porchetta, pizza, pasta, seafood, etc, $15- to $20- and you will be full. They are everywhere and from where your staying,Victoria, St North Melbourne or 392 Rathdowne St, North Carlton next Street down from Lygon St running parallel, the cheapest and hint if you order a main make sure your hungry, an entree will do it.Just google and is all their maps, menus, etc. Margo for shopping give the Victoria Market a miss it's for tourist and not cheap, but for a look around it's fun. Try the D.F.O.(direct factory outlets) at Spencer St,cheap.
Hope it's of use and don't hesitate to call or email me, but hope to see you at the show tomorrow. Cheers Mick......

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
What a day of disappointment. No WAN. You know things are bad when a 16 y.o. can't get it to work. BUT, the outcome was good, met Noel Leahy and had a lengthy chat, met his No1. techie, met Arthur Gray ( he had no recall of the Canberra incident. Gary Watson, was busy judging and Philly tried to slip him a couple of dollars ( the old $1. notes he carries around for such inducements.) Zion, one of the US dealers who offered a hand and a few others. Michael Eastick was also a great help- his computer worked from the connection but he needed it for his own stand.
It was good to meet Tony (Lackatoi2), his charming wife Julie and son (who will remain nameless because he couldn't fix the 'puter.) Then there was Traralgon and Pres. (who had a few words to us), I saw GJ50 walk past (working hard).
I hope things go better tomorrow ( I think it will, with his master -there.)
Tony told Billabong, the MargoZ had changed her appearance ( new hair color and NO RED SHOES....) I think that threw the Billabong a bit.....
For those wishing to view the upcoming auctions from Prestige, all the material is at the show.
I bought 3 Scout covers from Tasmanian Stamp Auctions at reasonable prices.

Spent a pleasant afternoon chewing the cud with the other rounded up cats (oops for the mixed metaphore.... ) and confirmed my belief in leaving the King Geo Vs totally and absolutely alone.
Other material is fascinating, and Pedro the Fisherman will enjoy
But the puda would not fire up , and my offer of technical assistance gently declined , so all enquiries about Stampboards only received old fashioned verbal replies
Went down town for dinner as a strict training regime for tomorrow night, and home by the Country Rail, to just past the CFA station. Regards

I had planned on coming down to the show tomorrow but alas it appears that I am not going to be able to make it as we have a very sick little girl here and ther eis no way I can see that I am going to be able to come...really disappointed as have been waiting for the big show to come to Victoria so I had a chance to be part of it...oh well guess I will have to wait until next time.
Hope everyone has a great time, am disappointed that I won't get to be able to meet you.

Well 3 visitors and (personally) 3/4 bottle of shiraz later i'm finally packed. Things seem a little hazier than earlier but just have to get up for work, do 6 hours then fly down to Melbourne to meet up with the rest of the hardy souls.
looking forward to tomorrow, hopefully they get some laptops working between now and then!

3/4 a bottle ?
Wimp -- we had 6 bottles for dinner, THEN went on to join the real drunks at James Squire! We stumbled across them by accident - true!
Most of the APF Judging Panel were there.
A few photos from dinner tonight.

Well done Margo, nice display for stampboards!
How many new members will sign up on the show?
Why don't you start a guessing competition and let the winner have a souvenir from the show?
Enjoy the few days!

As the people in Melbourne (particularly GJ50) are very busy I thought I would point you to http://www.apf.org.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and the Exhibition Timetable link.
You will see there is a National One Frame plus State exhibition in Launceston later this year, part Nationals next year in Adelaide and Canberra and a full National in Sydney in 2011.

Well I have survived both the Stamp Boards dinner and the train trip home. Interesting evening well enjoyed without mentioning stamps at all.

But those who declined my offer to accompany them home, misssed the Spencer Faulty Towers trip home. Accompanied by three Collingwood feralettes, a 30 year old Russian nymphomaniac Carlton supporter who tried to grumpynap, two 18 year olds who had ingested 5 different mind altering substances.
An Asian gentleman who could not believe what he was listening to, a lady who was absorbed by her book, but grinned regularly and a Sydney supporter who has a greater appreciation of Melbourne football culture, and a carriage of people who should have been charged entertainment tax. Thanks to all for the pictures and reports, and great job at signing up new members. Good to put names to faces.
I'd like to think we could do something similar at London 2010 but methinks it's unlikely at this stage of the proceedings. Maybe for another UK show sometime.

Wish I could come, too. Today I made this cover for the MSDA Summer Show in Prospect Heights, IL. Am I missing anything?
After I made this, I noticed I should have:
1) Cancelled it in Prospect Heights, IL
2) Waited until tomorrow, and
3) I should have cancelled it in a different spot. (Yes, the clerk let me cancel it myself.)

I am sad to report Billabong was shattered when I got home from the show, yesterday. He missed MagoZ and her red shoes and the legs are even better than the avatar. He didn't attend with me because he was in disgrace after getting stuck into the Port on Thursday night.
Like Philly, I was in a crowded carriage, full of high/drunk teenagers.(or maybe they were just on a high because Mr B's team won.) Anyway, this 25 y.o. who had been snuggling up to his girlfriend all the journey picked on one of the teenagers, who were just in the mood to punch out his lights. I think he would have lost out though as there were about ten/twelve of them. Anyway, they saw good sense and with a few calming words, decided it was better for him just to get off the train without incident. From my opinion, it was not the teenager s at fault , but the 25 y.o. who should have known better.

How was the food or should I say WAS there any food as the tables don't look like they could manage any plates (liquid lunch?) with so many glasses and bottles

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
Well the Gangs all gone, off to Kevins for a Feed and a spend.
I think most enjoyed themselves, except perhaps Jonah,s wife,,,who wa sfinding it a bit hard going,as she is not a collector at all.she did confide in me that she was planning something REALLY big later on as a "Get Back:
Roly,s position on the GOMC ladder has firmed considerably after presenting GOM1 with a Special Bottle of GOMC RED all the way from New Zealand,
Photos of the presentation to follow + others, as Glen was taking The Happy Snaps
Diver Pete,s Dad checked out the ACSC. and was pleased to find he had a nice little find of Missing Colour from the Metric Conversion set.Glen and I thought it looked good too,so what more can you ask.
Harry brought in a Truck load of stuff for viewing and selling, I have not had a chance to catch up with him yet, so I guess Monday will reveal all.
I must Thank all those who pitched in to help ,,,Waroff,Philly,Fercon Jerry,Ann Wiggy,Harry ,and Diver Pete, all had a hand in Transport,Coffee making, setting up etc.making the day a succsess.
THANK YOU ALL

We are all at Kevin's in the Dandenong Hills for a lavish BBQ, and tour of the huge new premises.
We have taken up a collection for Sherro's bus ticket, and it is up to 39c so far ... still working on it .............

So they still use 1 and 2 cent pieces down there?
I'd have been at the show if we still lived in Melbourne!
Have fun all,
Cheers, Kev.
