We have moved onto a new page so the points to respond to are posted here once again for members to respond to please.

OK .. time to get some order into the meandering around in circles above.

Can all members above .. and those yet to post, please make a post using this exact grid below, so we get some REAL numbers and ideas - and not just vague motherhood concepts!

I cannot read minds, and so far that seems to be what is expected of us.

Mrboggler and Kevin Morgan need firm numbers, and for Friday night dinner, numbers clearly are essential.

If you are bringing a partner/friend to any of the options below please post YES (2) or YES (3) etc so we get a good idea of numbers.

1. I can attend Friday stampboards dinner in the city area at my cost. - YES/NO

2. I have an actual Friday evening venue to suggest, quite close by to Victoria Hotel area, and have checked they can handle a booking for 12-15 persons Friday. Their website is xxxxxxx. They are BYO/not BYO. The average cost for mains is xxx and lowest cost wine per bottle is xxxx. (If anyone offers a sensible level fixed price thing for 3 courses and coffee - better still - saves messing about with bill!)

3. I can assist for an hour or so manning the stampboards table on following days if needed for approx xxxx time

4. I will likely attend the Saturday train trip to Mr Boggler's leaving city by train approx 11am. YES/NO.

5. I will likely attend Mr Boggler's, but am local, and will get there under my own steam. YES/NO.

6. I know how to read a MEL train timetable - the best train to Croydon in order to arrive around 11am Sat, leaves from xxxxxxx station and leaves at xxxxxx am.

7. I will likely attend the free Kevin Morgan/'Stamp News' BBQ lunch at Boronia about 1.15pm Saturday. YES/NO.

8. I will likely attend the stampboards Official Meeting at 12:00 - 1:30pm - The Prahran Philatelic Society Room. YES/NO

9. I want a free season pass and Show program. (A few still up for grabs) YES/NO.

10. I'd be happy to attend the AFL game SUNDAY 2.15pm at the MCG with a few stampboarders. (If anyone has any idea what ticket cost is - please by all means post that below to guide others who may want to go, depending on cost.) YES/NO

11. I'd likely take up ebay dealer's suggestion above, to go out clubbing/Casino after Friday dinner. YES/NO.

Thanks for your help.

1. I can attend Friday stampboards dinner in the city area at my cost. - NO.
I might be a walk-up at the last minute if that will cause no inconvience for venue or Stampboarders. Just started a new job and my knock-off time is completely unpredictable! But for the sake of pre-bookings, I'm a no.

2. I have an actual Friday evening venue to suggest, etc - Racking my brains but nothing so far

3. I can assist for an hour or so manning the stampboards table on following days if needed:

I could help out on Saturday afternoon, though it'd be the first time I've gotten to a show with a Stampboards presence so a personal email with tips and pointers would be appreciated! Don't want to let the team down.

4. I will likely attend the Saturday train trip to Mr Boggler's leaving city by train approx 11am. NO.

5. I will likely attend Mr Boggler's, but am local, and will get there under my own steam. NO.

6. The best train to Croydon in order to arrive around 11am Sat

You will need the Lilydale train. It leaves from Flinders St Station (the big one near Fed Square) at 9.50am.

Flinders St is the closest to the Victoria Hotel. If you are elsewhere in the city, you can catch the same train from the following stations as it heads around the City Loop:

Southern Cross (aka Spencer St) 9.53am
Melbourne Central 9.55am
Parliament 9.57am

The train passes through Richmond station (a 10-15 minute walk from the Stampshow venue) at 10.00am.

You'll reach Croydon at 10.44am.

In the event of a cancellation, or if you sleep in: take the 10.10 Belgrave train from Flinders St (other Loop stations and Richmond shortly afterwards) but change at Ringwood to a Lilydale train. You'll get to Croydon at about 11.06am.

7. I will likely attend the free Kevin Morgan/'Stamp News' BBQ lunch at Boronia about 1.15pm Saturday. NO. Sorry boss, I don't think I can make it!

8. I will likely attend the stampboards Official Meeting at 12:00 - 1:30pm - The Prahran Philatelic Society Room. YES.

9. I want a free season pass and Show program. (A few still up for grabs) DEPENDS
I can only go on Sat/Sun, so I'll only take one if there are any spare close to the day.

10. I'd be happy to attend the AFL game Saturday 2.15pm at the MCG with a few stampboarders. NO
(Not sure about the wording of this one... it implies that if I found myself at the footy with some stamp collectors, I wouldn't be happy... )

11. I'd likely take up ebay dealer's suggestion above, to go out clubbing/Casino after Friday dinner. NO although as a young(er) collector I applaud the concept!

See you there

Please put me down for the visit to Mr Boggler and to Boronia to Kevin Morgan's.

I will have three car spaces available from Croydon to Boronia and to a convenient
train station afterwards. Not sure when I will be attending the show but I will introduce myself at the stand in case any help in manning is required.

Aladinns Post Re: the trains is right.

Trains run every 20 minutes.

The 9.50 Lilydale is the right one from Flinders Street.

The 9.30 and 10.10 are Belgrave trains and you have to change at Ringwood fo the Lilydale train. (2 minute or so wait)

Zone 1 and 2 ticket required.

Does anyone know is Max Sterns shop is open Saturday!

If we leave from Flinders St, he is yards away.

I'd get Max to get us a welcome but with his religion, not sure if he opens, and his website (which is absolutely appalling and 5 years out of date!) says nothing re opening hours.

If looking for dealers to visit you could try and sneak in a visit to Prestige Auctions at Belgrave.

They have 3 Auctions 27th to 28th of July, Postal History and a 'FIP Large Gold Medal Collection of British New Guinea and Papua formed by Peter Troy OAM.' One for the Lakatoi Lovers.

http://www.prestigephilately.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

rear of 1630 Burwood Highway
Belgrave Victoria 3160

Which is sort of out Mr. BOGGLERS and Kevin's way.

Phoenix Auctions (Sponsors of the board or at least advertisers) have their Auction on the 28th of July.

http://www.phoenixauctions.com.au/cgi-bin/wsPhoenix.sh/checkID.w?security=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Viewing will be held in our offices at Level 2, 482 Bourke Street, Melbourne. 7 days 10 to 5 and Friday 24th July 10am to 7pm

Rod Perry's Office/Shop is in the same building.

Transport Summary

From Victoria Hotel to Rod Laver venue
Use No. 70 tram "Wattle Glen" cr Flinders and Spencer St. It stops at the venue.

Melbourne to Croydon
Daily zone 1 ticket for the trip both ways (and further use if need be) and on the day going out to Croydon (Mr Boggler's etc) you will need a zone 1 and 2 daily ticket.

You will need the Lilydale train. It leaves from Flinders St Station (the big one near Fed Square) at 9.50am.

It makes the best sense to all PRE-MEET before getting on train Saturday, so we can do that as one group, and arrive as one group. So I suggest we meed outside Max Stern's vast shop complex next to the Flinder's Station at around ~9.30 am SAT. It is a quiet Arcade, and plenty of stamp stuff to look at in the windows. :) Port Philip Arcade - on St Kilda Rd/Flinders St intersection basically:

https://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Shopping/Gifts/GamesandHobb ... aymode=map

Flinders St is the closest to the Victoria Hotel. If you are elsewhere in the city, you can catch the same train from the following stations as it heads around the City Loop - but DO make it Max Stern's please, so we can all leave as one group:

Southern Cross (aka Spencer St) 9.53am
Melbourne Central 9.55am
Parliament 9.57am

The train passes through Richmond station (a 10-15 minute walk from the Stampshow venue) at 10.00am. You will reach Croydon at 10.44am.

In the event of a cancellation, or if you sleep in: take the 10.10 Belgrave train from Flinders St (other Loop stations and Richmond shortly afterwards) but change at Ringwood to a Lilydale train. You'll get to Croydon at about 11.06am.

Hi all,

The only thing i can add to the public transport situation is that despite looking complicated , it really is not. Ive always found fellow Melbournians very helpful as i do not travel public transport very often.

Also, the last time i did, i thought about not buying a ticket on a Sunday but luckily i did as our train was checked by the inspectors who travel in numbers to make themselves feel more powerful.

I also find most of these inner city destinations eminantly walkable for the slightly fitter amongst us. Although our city has been getting its fair share of idiots and voilence of late all the city venues of stamp interest are up the good end of town in my honest opinion.

Hi

I will be there and have a dealer stand.

I have only just read this and am leaving in a couple of hours, so i will deal with the other questions upon my arrival.

By the time I arrive I hope it is 1-0 to the Engerland in the Ashes, lol.

Probably most of you will not want to talk to me if it is,however, I WILL find you.

See you all next week

*sigh* Librarians. What would we do without them.

Great work Margo. :D

And just an addendum - I believe anyone coming from country Victoria by train or V-Line bus can use their V-Line ticket for Zone 1 travel within Melbourne - trains or trams (this will get you to Richmond, but not Croydon).

Just quickly adding that myself and the wife will definetly be attending, cant answer any of the other questions right now as we arent sure what time she is able to knock off work on Friday as yet. Being a Qantas employee flights arent an issue so once we've finalised accomodation tonight I'll be in a better position to say what exactly we will be doing.

I'll be bringing my laptop along as well which has a wireless internet dongle and providing it's only used for stampboards stuff then the 3gb cap ownt be reached by any means. Also on the laptop i have full scott catalogues so if anyone needs to quickly check something up then it wont be an issue either.

Will find out the rest of the answers as soon as the wife finishes work tonight, but i'm sure we will be up for dinner friday. :D

Philly asked me to reply as his computer is down (again---he should really pay his bills when they come in...hehehehehe)
He said he would drag me along to the Friday night shindig at the Greek restaurant. SO Philly and Willy for Friday night.

Se you all on Thursday... don't forget to call in at the Stampboards stand. I might have to supervise Philly when he is on, so I'm bringing a stockwhip, spurs and leather chaps but no pink leotards, and purple stockings or budgie's.

See You all then....

For questions 1-11 a YES. but NO to the Footy on SUNDAY. Thank you Kev M., in advance for your generosity.

As they say I'm a YES man....hehehehe

Lisa, I'm afraid you have rather a long wait for a National Exhibition in Brisbane.
2010 is half Nationals in Canberra and in Adelaide
2011 is Harbour City
2012 is Perth
2013 is AUSTRALIA 2013 in Melbourne a full International show.

There is one National per year, or as in 2010, 2 half Nationals. And they tend to go in rotation between the states. Brisbane had their last one only 12 months ago.

TRAIN TRAVELLERS

For those coming by electric train from Melbourne: Alight from train and exit station. Turn left and walk about 20metres (under bus shelters), cross rails heading East ( towards Dandenong Mts.-TV Towers) walk back towards Station entrance and cross a small road servicing carpark.

There is a pedestrian crossing which takes you through the CENTREWAY Arcade. One of the shops in the arcade is Classic Stamps and books ( lots of books- not many stamps- nowdays), exit arcade to MAIN St. In front of you now is HEWISH Road. On the corner is a YELLOW painted Chemist shop (Huge, can't miss it.)

Walk down HEWISH Road on the chemist side, past a laneway, to the next group of shops In the middle of these is an arcade for entrance to the CINEMA. Walk down the Arcade, on your right is the MIND BOGGLERS annexe, keep walking and on the left is MIND BOGGLERS......You're there.

For PeterS, this was the inspiration for my avatar....hehhehehe

Waroff .. I am hoping someone local from GOMC can be at Croydon station to meet us at 10..44am - so us looking at directions will not be necessary?

Look forward to seeing all those who ventue out to Croydon outside Max Stern's shop at around 9.30am Saturday so we can leave as one group!

Many thanks to Gary for organising this, despite the late notice of real names!

He is VP and Commissioner General for the show, and how he found time I have no idea. :D

Great touch adding the stampboards logo on there! These come with a lanyard to wear around your neck.

We still have a few free if anyone is coming who has yet to put their name down here, for a free season pass countesy of stampboards. Your name will be hand written on at entry desk I believe.

SUPERB souvenier of the show .. thanks again Gary. 8)

This seems a bit redundant, but..

1 yes, will be there for dinner. Have eaten there before
2 redundant
3 manning, yes Thursday and Sunday, perhaps not early, and can do more than one shift.
4 no idea
5 Mr B's, yes
6 ?
7 Kevin's - yes
8 Prahran, yes so daont have me manning the S/B stall.
9 Pass - already organised
10 AFL - no
11 no way
11a Someone or something from the GOMC will be at the Croydon station to guide the lost lonely souls, but remember to tip. Catch the Lilydale train , or if on the Belgrave train, remember to change at Ringwood,(may need to use the crossover).
11b Transport for 2 - 3 to Kevins available
!1c Ian, you won the cricket "fair'n'square" but we will be umpiring at the Stamp Show
11d Yes, we do have the Country Fire Brigade volunteers to help us. On the Black Saturday, I was at Prestige auction, road was closed, saw the fire bombing aircraft drop their load and was detoured by police for hours before getting home. It may be that Gary from Prestige will have the auction material at the Stamp Show for viewing, check his web site

Great News!

I have just managed to negotiate via Luca, the Restaurant owner, to book at 7pm Friday evening dinner at $45 cash per head to be paid to Glen direct.

This will include a starter appetiser plate such as bruschetta or garlic bread, plus your choice of main courses off the menu (except Porterhouse steak!) also dessert, plus tea and coffee.

Most important, this $45 inc tip includes all House Red or White Wine & Beer, or soft drinks. :D

At IL TEMPO, Intimate Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar.

Cosy, stylish surrounds with a dash of rustic charm, serving home style Italian food with a large selection of pastas and bruschettas. SHOP 8/250 FLINDERS STREET, enter via DEGRAVES STREET MELBOURNE VIC 3000.

This is as central as you can get for where you folks are staying, less than 1 minute walk from Flinders Street Station and Max Stern's shop.

I have previously been there with Richard & Andy Juzwin, Rod Perry and Gary Watson and their partners etc for a 'Stamp News' function and I can assure you we will be well looked after! :D

A SUPERB deal to set up Kevin!

OK, that is where the Friday dinner will take place - all attendees please note change of venue.

Margo spent hours on Sunday on the web and phone trying to pin down a place for Friday dinner, that would not sink the average stampboarder's budget.

The bizarre thing she found was that even when FOOD was most reasonable priced, the WINE was literally around $40 a bottle from ALL of them - - cheapest price ... and went upwards.

Most fixed menus were generally $55, so it worked out to ~$100 a person for most of us who want a drink.

And almost none were BYO in city area.

So $45 a head all up with tip is a GREAT find ... many thanks!

Ok we have finally managed to get accomodation sorted for the weekend , and it turns out we are brilliantly located for both catching the train and for the Friday night feast!

Staying in the Citigate on Flinders street right opposite the station , and we are hoping to arrive in Melbourne no later than 5pm Friday afternoon, flights are looking pretty quiet for the afternoon so should have no problems there with staff travel.

Currently our plans are to arrive Friday , get checked in , changed etc grab a quick beer/ wine or two then meet everyone at the restaurant for the evening.

Saturday I'm still in negotiations with the wife but i think she is going to head off shopping while i take the sojourn out to meet the GOMC at mindbogglers. I will probably then return back to the CBD before the wife puts us into financial ruin ! Before heading out to the stampshow that afternoon. (Although knowing the wife this will change once she gets to meet everyone on friday!)

We will both most likely be in attendance for the Sunday stampboards meeting before flying back sometime late afternoon. If there are still any of the complimentary stampboards tickets available then I would like to claim a pair , however if someone is intending attending more than just Sat/Sun then I'll happily pass them to that person.

Thankyou to everyone that has put in a tremendous amount of effort into sorting this "meet" out and i look forward to meeting everyone for the first time this Friday evening. :D
