Big thanks to all the "boarders" who I was fortunate enough to meet, at the show, and delightful to put faces to names.
Next opportunity, I will get to partake of more of the social aspects of Stampboards, and really show you guys how to drink.....
Thanks also to Margo for posting up all the good piccy's, for us all to enjoy.

Yes, a big thanks to Margo and Glen for organising the meeting, its so nice to see the faces of fellow collectors.
It seems that Melbourne was a very successful show , with large crowds and plenty of money changing hands.

Busy dealer stands for 4 days.
Member Michael Eastick with look of shock, to hear of the size his cheque to Millennium's Paul Fletcher needs to be.
Jude Koch sporting his lovely Diamonte brooch in the shape of an owl, along with Bridget Koch and Diamonte festooned desk Owl.
Richard Juzwin scoffing an apple. I told him for a $50 bribe I would delete it, but he said with the severe economic downturn, he was down to apples from Lobsters, and could not afford the bridge, so here we go.

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
It's great to be able to attach faces to names. It's been a great few days, and I would particularly like to thank whoever suggested Statistics as a nice eating venue (Thursday evening), to Kevin Morgan for finding another nice place for Dinner Friday evening, and particularly for his generosity in hosting the BBQ and drinks on Saturday, and Mrboggler (Ron) for his generosity as mine host in his shop on Saturday (and particularly his pricing - I filled a few gaps).
In particular thanks to Glen and Margo for taking all those pictures and posting them here. It will at least allow me to see what I did, even if I don't remember a lot of it, and it looks like I had a great time, apart from (somehow) falling down stairs, tripping and twisting a kneecap chasing a tram, and bruising my hand (how?).
A great four days, and at a minimum, I will be in Canberra again next year, and probably go to the National wherever it is going to be. I have now confirmed that nobody can drink like stamp collectors.

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
Thanks to all Stampboarders, especially Glen and Red shoed Lady. If there is a dichotomy in life, it must be Glen and Margo the magnificent. Billabong told me after looking at the Photos, that he has changed his mind about Margo and now sees Julie (Mrs. Lackytoy the 4th) as the apple of his eye.
After my recent holiday, it was nice to find that the moderators are nearly human after all. Although I still have my doubts about GOMC13, he talks funny. After some of the stories I was told (off the record), I think I would hate to be a moderator.
Once again thanks Glen for providing the opportunity to meet our cyber mates of Stampboards.( and of course the free passes for the 4 days.)
To the Lakatois, congratulations on your medal winning exhibitions , although personally, I think Julie's should have got a silver, to keep it in the family.
I will be looking forward to our next meeting, which I think is in CannedBerry.
Thank you Paul, for showing off your Bared Numerals, which you say you got for a song. Now comes the work of ordering them but you have got a good reference in the Freeman Book.
Something that just came into my mind- never more true than at the SHOW-----Knowledge Is Power. One of the GOMC's picked up a $100.00 stamp for $10.00 as the dealer didn't know what he was selling. I'm sure there were many other such deals, especially to the stampboarders who know what they are looking for. Excluding NOrm who robbed Mr B and his 50% discount policy. (Anyway Ron will be pleased to find a stampboarder is now looking after his Norfolk Is. sets.)
Thanks again and may all your stamping experiences be good ones.

9.00 p.m. and finally home in chilly Traralgon.
Thoroughly enjoyed the four days. It was great to meet everyone and put names to the faces.
The exhibits were great, got to meet the shaker and mover of Australia Post Philatelic Section and he even had a go at trying to fix the internet connexion on this computer.
For those who couldn't make it, try to get to the next one.
I had plans on working on my tin over the next few days, but the wife has other plans after I was away for 4 days. She has just booked us in or 3 days at a bed and breakfast in Hamilton. I suppose I'll have to go.
I need a break.

Thanks for sharing all these photos.
I can almost pick up the excitement of stampboarders meeting and exchanging news and views and looking at the exhibits, gasping at some of the items on sale and gleefully smiling with some of their good finds.
Glen, this is another feather in your hat, and hope there are many more such events to follow.
Cheers
Andrew

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
Andrew, there was something missing...........YOU. This cyber being there is not as good as the actual thing.
You could have had a moderator's meeting without the computers. Of course Sherro wasn't there but that's not unusual. (Well, yes I missed Sherro too.) Not paying any disrespect to those hard-working moderator souls in the far flung corners of the globe, like the USA, Canada and that other combined island.
From all reports (or rumours) IOMOON, is starting a GOMC of his own, not a Grumpy Old Men's Club but a Grumpy Old MODERATOR'S CLUB. I don't think it will catch on though. ps. My impeccable source was not at the Melbourne Show, but was a filter from from a planet far, far, away which senses these things.

Great Show, Great people, and great company.
Thanks have already been given to those worthy people who did all the work and I must second all of those expressions, but I would be failing if I did not once again thank Glen and Margo, without whom all of this would not have happened.
Nigel Clayton.

Tony,
yes, the Palmares at the Savage Club was a night to remember. We were in the Annex and missed most of the speeches but as the wine was plentifully imbibed there was many interesting conversations.
Don should be congratulated for organizing the dinner in such an unusual atmosphere, I doubt there is no comparison anywhere in the world.
I presume you noticed when the event broke up around 11.30pm. and it was cold outside that there were lines of teenagers waiting to go clubbing. I don't know how long they had been lining up but they all seemed happy,
Those of us that were wearing APF awards around our necks were warned to take them off before we went outside,

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
One of the most memorable events that occurred at the show was near closing time on the last day. There were talks on Traditional, Postal History and Postal Stationery which was open to all exhibitors, however virtually no exhibitors were present and the room was mainly attended by judges.

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
A few queries about who was who at the Stampboards meeting in Melbourne.
Here's an annotated lineup....unfortunately a few members had come and gone by the time we thought to take the picture 8)

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
A few photos I have not had time to load until now, from the tie and jacket PALMARES Award dinner on Saturday night.
Held in the very dark wood and lavish Victoriana "Savage Club" private club venue in inner city. All kinds of primitive weapons and tribal masks and suchlike adorn all the walls.
And enough artwork next to them, to make the Nationally Gallery jealous.
Membership by invite only and fees are high. There are NO women members.
The solid wood entry door has no indication or signage whatever as to what is inside.
Not that their website mentions that!

Club Etiquette
Men only Club
Suit or tailored jacket and tie. Jeans, leather jackets or trainers not permitted
Mobile phones are not allowed in the Club

From left, Margo, RolyRJ, Blake, and parents Julie and Lakatoi4 - the latter trio all picking up nice medals at the show.
Arthur Gray collecting his Large Gold award.
Our member Martin Walker "saphilatelist" collecting his major Large Gold award - sorry about the blurry pix ... . I'd had too much white wine by that stage.
A wider view of some of our members at the table.

Have just scanned through the post and all who attended appeared to have enjoyed themselves. Nice comments and photos of various occasions. Just wish I could have been there. Maybe another year. Congrats to all.

melbourne 09 photos
hello Glen was nice to finally officially meet
I have been reading the post on the show for awhile, just picking up on the tech probs you were having at the show, the little short gal who sorted you out was Yvette Trinidad.
Anyway, I'm starting to waffle - the main reason for the post is to announce that I have just placed online a heap of photos from the show which can be viewed at http://www.melbournestampshow2009.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
then images from show online

Re: STAMPBOARDS LIVE at Melb. 'Stampshow 09' July 23/26!
I have just read the latest copy of "VPC News", with many articles on Stampshow Melb. 09. Turn to p3. and who should adorn the first photo but our own RolyRJ, Lakatoi4 and his son, looking at his award winning exhibition.
(If the photo was of better quality, I would add it here- but it's not, so I won't.) Apart from that, it is not flattering to Roly(GOMC), as it points out his baldness rather vividly.

One of the very few problems with bulletin/chatboards is that, with the sheer number of topics created, you tend to forget topics that are still of importance and/or have good memories.
This is one with a lot of good memories

Quite right Tony.
Apart from everything else, who could forget the night at the Savage Club?
