David herding cats has taken up 10 hours so far getting these lists into order -- stop being cryptic .. do you want to be added to the stampboards master list above for tickets or NOT?

Sorry, we do not have time for these silly word games.

Asking Gary to do this a day before the show is a bit rich if I might say so as members were asked on this about a week back.

Transport Summary

From Victoria Hotel to Rod Laver venue
Use No. 70 tram "Wattle Glen" cr Flinders and Spencer St. It stops at the venue.
https://www.mopt.com.au/desktopdefault.a%20...%202_read-32/
https://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse%20...%20Map-A4.pdf

Melbourne to Croydon
Daily zone 1 ticket for the trip both ways (and further use if need be) and on the day going out to Croydon (Mr Boggler's etc) you will need a zone 1 and 2 daily ticket.

You will need the Lilydale train. It leaves from Flinders St Station (the big one near Fed Square) at 9.50am.

It makes the best sense to all PRE-MEET before getting on train Saturday, so we can do that as one group, and arrive as one group. So I suggest we meed outside Max Stern's vast shop complex next to the Flinder's Station at around ~9.30 am SAT. It is a quiet Arcade, and plenty of stamp stuff to look at in the windows. :) Port Philip Arcade - on St Kilda Rd/Flinders St intersection basically:

https://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Shopping/Gifts/GamesandHobb ... aymode=map

Flinders St is the closest to the Victoria Hotel. If you are elsewhere in the city, you can catch the same train from the following stations as it heads around the City Loop - but DO make it Max Stern's please, so we can all leave as one group:

Southern Cross (aka Spencer St) 9.53am
Melbourne Central 9.55am
Parliament 9.57am

The train passes through Richmond station (a 10-15 minute walk from the Stampshow venue) at 10.00am. You will reach Croydon at 10.44am.

In the event of a cancellation, or if you sleep in: take the 10.10 Belgrave train from Flinders St (other Loop stations and Richmond shortly afterwards) but change at Ringwood to a Lilydale train. You'll get to Croydon at about 11.06am.

Margo spent a huge amount of time translating much gibberish, guessing, reading between lines, and using impressive clairvoyancy skills for many members to collate the above.

If you want to be ADDED to any of the above please POST HERE BELOW.

Please do it clearly, in English, with no clever cryptic comments, or "maybes", - and we will gladly add you in.

If you *THINK* we have magically read your mind from another vague post on a another thread a month back, you clearly are mistaken, if you are NOT listed above. Let's add it HERE please if you are.

Still plenty of time, but we CANNOT mind read. EXACT NUMBERS are crucial for many of these things.

Even if PeterS is on the train, I wouldn't trust an out of Towner, so one of the real GOM's will be there to greet you . The city bound trains usually come just as you are about to cross the tracks.

Glen,

I didn't mean to be cryptic, I was only asking Gary for name tags and didn't realise that it would start WWIII.

Yes, I would appreciate my name being added to the list for tickets,

See You in Melbourne,

Ann .. no, love to see you there. Anyone else who wants to come along, please post here.

We set it for 7pm for that reason - if anyone needs to commute home, it is still quite early for your travels. :D

I have no doubt many of us will continue on to Young and Jacksons or Casino or wherever, but my hunch is the dinner itself will be done and dusted by about 9pm or so.

I've added you and Jonah to the applicable lists at top of this page.

Not good for air travellers but your overcoat, carried on, probably won't be weighed.

Skippy, I doubt that they will go on line. If you see the photo of me above, with the antannae, and want the truth - that was not me playing games (or drunk! what libelous allegations) - that was actually our internet wireless connection which enabled us to broadcast live.

I refuse to do it again this year, without at least two bottles of Cab. Sav. in me.

Unfortunately my lap top doesn't like the Lan/wan or whatever connection at Stampshow. Worked at it for hours and still couldn't get it to work. Had the Australia Post Web Tech guy have a shot. Even the head of the Philatelic Division Noel LEAHY had a go. No luck.

I have come down to Federation Square to connect to the Wi Fi. (which obviously works fine)

A quiet start but the table is set up and a few contacts made. Glen the signs etc arrived at 10.30, just in time.

Day 1 and everyonge is more interested in being first at their favourite dealer/s to snap up the best material.

Waroff and Philly were in fine form. But they remained decent and din't scare off any potential 'Boarders'.

The exhibits are excellent and with luck I will spend tomorrow perusing same.

If you have a chance to come in to Melbourne be sure to pay us a visit.

 Hi their Glen and Margo, this is Mick from Westmeadows, nice photo and that was quick, thanks for your help and advice.

Enjoy and have a great time here in Melbourne, try the City Circle Trams for free and also a Shuttle Bus which go between certain hours(9:10am to 5:30pm & Thursday to Sunday till 8:30pm),they run the city perimeter and right into the new Docklands.

For a great cheap feed with BYO or drinks from the menu $20 to $30- for a good bottle of wine La Porchetta, pizza, pasta, seafood, etc, $15- to $20- and you will be full. They are everywhere and from where your staying,Victoria, St North Melbourne or 392 Rathdowne St, North Carlton next Street down from Lygon St running parallel, the cheapest and hint if you order a main make sure your hungry, an entree will do it.Just google and is all their maps, menus, etc. Margo for shopping give the Victoria Market a miss it's for tourist and not cheap, but for a look around it's fun. Try the D.F.O.(direct factory outlets) at Spencer St,cheap.

Hope it's of use and don't hesitate to call or email me, but hope to see you at the show tomorrow. Cheers Mick......

What a day of disappointment. No WAN. You know things are bad when a 16 y.o. can't get it to work. BUT, the outcome was good, met Noel Leahy and had a lengthy chat, met his No1. techie, met Arthur Gray ( he had no recall of the Canberra incident. Gary Watson, was busy judging and Philly tried to slip him a couple of dollars ( the old $1. notes he carries around for such inducements.) Zion, one of the US dealers who offered a hand and a few others. Michael Eastick was also a great help- his computer worked from the connection but he needed it for his own stand.

It was good to meet Tony (Lackatoi2), his charming wife Julie and son (who will remain nameless because he couldn't fix the 'puter.) Then there was Traralgon and Pres. (who had a few words to us), I saw GJ50 walk past (working hard).

I hope things go better tomorrow ( I think it will, with his master -there.)

Tony told Billabong, the MargoZ had changed her appearance ( new hair color and NO RED SHOES....) I think that threw the Billabong a bit.....

For those wishing to view the upcoming auctions from Prestige, all the material is at the show.

I bought 3 Scout covers from Tasmanian Stamp Auctions at reasonable prices.

Spent a pleasant afternoon chewing the cud with the other rounded up cats (oops for the mixed metaphore.... ) and confirmed my belief in leaving the King Geo Vs totally and absolutely alone.

Other material is fascinating, and Pedro the Fisherman will enjoy

But the puda would not fire up :? :? , and my offer of technical assistance gently declined  , so all enquiries about Stampboards only received old fashioned verbal replies

Went down town for dinner as a strict training regime for tomorrow night, and home by the Country Rail, to just past the CFA station. Regards

As the people in Melbourne (particularly GJ50) are very busy I thought I would point you to http://www.apf.org.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and the Exhibition Timetable link.

You will see there is a National One Frame plus State exhibition in Launceston later this year, part Nationals next year in Adelaide and Canberra and a full National in Sydney in 2011.

Well I have survived both the Stamp Boards dinner and the train trip home. Interesting evening well enjoyed without mentioning stamps at all.
8) 8)
But those who declined my offer to accompany them home, misssed the Spencer Faulty Towers trip home. Accompanied by three Collingwood feralettes, a 30 year old Russian nymphomaniac Carlton supporter who tried to grumpynap, two 18 year olds who had ingested 5 different mind altering substances.

An Asian gentleman who could not believe what he was listening to, a lady who was absorbed by her book, but grinned regularly and a Sydney supporter who has a greater appreciation of Melbourne football culture, and a carriage of people who should have been charged entertainment tax. Regards until tomorrow

Thanks to all for the pictures and reports, and great job at signing up new members. Good to put names to faces.
I'd like to think we could do something similar at London 2010 but methinks it's unlikely at this stage of the proceedings. Maybe for another UK show sometime.
